TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa men's basketball team concludes its three-game homestand Sunday when it plays host to Southern Miss at noon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

The Golden Hurricane (6-9, 1-0 C-USA) is playing its third straight contest in its home arena and second consecutive league game at home to begin the conference portion of the season. The Hurricane has won five in a row at home this season. The Golden Eagles (14-2, 1-0 C-USA) have won five games in a row.

Tulsa Falls To Southern Miss in Close Battle, 62-59
Tulsa jumped out to a six-point lead after halftime, but Southern Miss rallied to defeat the Golden Hurricane, 62-59, in front of 5,230 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Hurricane fell to 12-9 on the season and 4-3 in C-USA play, while the Golden Eagles improved to 17-4 and 6-0.

The game will be televised by Fox Sports 1, and also broadcast on the Hurricane Radio Network, KRMG AM 740/102.3 FM in Tulsa, and network affiliates.

Sophomore guard James Woodard leads Tulsa in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Rashad Smith scores 12.4 points with 5.4 rebounds per game. Shaquille Harrison averages 10.4 points and 3.6 assists per contest. Senior guard Pat Swilling Jr. averages 8.1 points per contest. Sophomore forward D'Andre Wright averages 7.9 points, sophomore guard Rashad Ray scores 4.3 points with 2.6 assists and Lew Evans scores 5.8 points per outing.

 

 

The Golden Hurricane averages 73.9 points and 34.1 rebounds per game, shooting .440 from the field, including .362 from 3-point territory. Hurricane opponents average 74.3 points and 36.7 rebounds, while shooting .435 from the field.

Southern Miss is led by Neil Watson, who averages 11.4 points and 3.6 assists per game. Michael Craig averages 10.7 points and leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per contest, and Daveon Boardingham adds 10.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per outing. The Golden Eagles average 73.2 points and 35.6 rebounds per game, shooting .470 from the field. USM opponents average 62.2 points and 28.8 rebounds, while shooting .422 from the field.

This is the 12th meeting between Tulsa and Southern Miss. Tulsa leads the series, 6-5. The Golden Eagles have won two in a row in the series, including a 62-59 win in Tulsa last season. USM also won 77-69 in overtime in Hattiesburg in 2012. The Golden Hurricane won four in a row from 2008-11, including three contests in Tulsa. The Hurricane 5-4 against the Golden Eagles since joining Conference USA in 2005-06. The teams first met in 1956, a 73-66 overtime win by Southern Miss in Tulsa. TU has won six games in the series by an average of 8.3 points, and USM has won five games by an average of 5.6 points. TU is 5-2 all-time against Southern Miss in Tulsa.
