HOUSTON - For the fourth time in six Conference USA games this season, the Tulsa basketball team is on the road, as it travels to face C-USA rival Houston at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hofheinz Pavilion.

The Golden Hurricane (11-8, 3-2 C-USA) and Cougars (12-5, 1-3 C-USA) continue a series that has been even over the course of the 61-year history of the rivalry, and within the two schools' C-USA membership. The all-time series is tied 21-21, and 5-5 since 2005-06, and each team has won on its home floor the last two seasons.

Wojcik Records School-Record 138th Win In 72-48 Victory Over Houston
Doug Wojcik recorded his 138th-career win at the helm of the Tulsa men's basketball program with a 72-48 victory over Houston, making him the all-time winningest coach in school history.


The game will be broadcast on KRMG AM 740/102.3 FM in Tulsa, and on www.TulsaHurricane.com. TU is coming off a 75-72 defeat at Tulane on Saturday, but has won four of its last six games, including two of its last three contests. UH, which won its conference opener, fell to UCF, 79-75, in overtime at home on Saturday.

The Golden Hurricane averages 64.7 points and 36.6 rebounds per game, and shoots 44 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 67 percent from the free throw line. TU allows 63.0 points and 32.9 rebounds per contest, as well as a .396 field goal percentage and a .323 three-point percentage.

Freshman guard James Woodard leads the active Golden Hurricane players in scoring, averaging 13.2 points, with 5.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Senior guard Scottie Haralson averages 9.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Junior guard Pat Swilling, Jr., averages 10.1 points in his 12 games played, and freshman guard Rashad Ray averages 6.7 points. Senior forward Kauri Black puts up 6.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest.

 

 

The Cougars lead C-USA in scoring, averaging 77.8 points per game, and rank fourth in field goal percentage (.455) and three-point percentage (.361). UH also averages 40.6 rebounds per game and a .698 free throw percentage. Houston allows 69.4 points, 36.5 rebounds, a .421 field goal percentage and a .317 three-point percentage. Joseph Young leads the Cougars with 17.0 points per game, while TaShawn Thomas leads the team with 9.8 rebounds per game, has 35 blocks, and averages 15.9 points. Danuel House adds 13.6 points per contest, and J.J. Thompson averages 3.5 assists per game.

This is the 43rd meeting between Tulsa and Houston. The series, which dates back to 1951, is tied, 21-21. The teams have split the season series in the last two years, with the home team winning each time. The Cougars won in Houston last season, 70-69, in overtime, and in 2010-11, 64-57. The Golden Hurricane returned home each season with wins in Tulsa, 72-48, last season, and 76-71 in overtime in 2010-11. TU won three in a row from 2008-10, and Houston won five in a row prior to that. The series is also tied, 5-5, since Tulsa joined Conference USA in 2005-06. The Golden Hurricane is 8-12 all-time against the Cougars in Houston.
