Tulsa, Oklahoma - TU Athletics Establishes Young Family Fire Relief Fund TU will take contributions at Wednesday's Tulsa-Marshall Basketball Game Tulsa, Oklahoma -- TU will be accepting cash contributions towards the Young Family Fire Relief Fund at Wednesday's men's basketball game as Tulsa takes on the Marshall Thundering Herd at 7:05 p.m.
Tulsa sophomore Kyle Young and his family experienced a tragic loss this past holiday season when the family home in Turpin, Oklahoma was hit by lightening that resulted in an electrical fire. The family escaped injury but the home, which had been in the family for generations, burned to the ground.
The University of Tulsa Athletics Department has established the Young Family Fire Relief Fund. Per NCAA bylaw 16.11.1.11, an institution may provide benefits for a student-athlete in the form of fundraisers in the following circumstances: (1) extreme circumstances should be extraordinary in the result of events beyond the student-athlete's control (e.g., life threatening illness, natural disaster).
On February 7, during the first half of play, there will be a "pass the hat" opportunity for fans to contribute. Fans can also visit the Reynolds Center West Main Concourse where donations will also be taken. Checks should be made payable to The University of Tulsa, memo Young Family Fund. Interested parties can also mail contributions, checks only, to: The University of Tulsa, Men's Basketball, 600 South College Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74104-3189.
A contribution to the Young Family Fire Relief Fund is not considered charitable and therefore is not tax deductible, nor will University giving credit be awarded.
