Tulsa Men Get Third Seed at C-USA Championship

IRVING, Texas - Tulsa earned the No. 3 seed in the 2012 Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship, and will face the winner of the Marshall-SMU game at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.
The Golden Hurricane (17-13, 10-6 C-USA) had already clinched a bye into the quarterfinal round of the C-USA Men's Basketball Championship, which runs March 7-10 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn. TU finished in a third-place tie with UCF (20-9, 10-6 C-USA), and claimed the higher seed by virtue of its 66-61 win over the Knights on Jan. 25.
Sixth-seeded Marshall and 11th-seeded SMU play at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the first round. The winner advances to the quarterfinals to face Tulsa on Thursday afternoon. The first round games will be televised by CSS Sports, while all quarterfinal and semifinal games of the C-USA Championship will be televised by CBS Sports Network. The championship game will be televised by CBS at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The regular season champion Memphis is the top seed and Southern Miss will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The full bracket and Conference USA release can be viewed here.
Tulsa has earned a top-four seed in the C-USA Championship in three of the last four years, and four times in seven seasons under head coach Doug Wojcik.
The Golden Hurricane defeated Marshall in the schools' only meeting of the season, 79-70, on Feb. 4. TU and SMU split the season series, as the Mustangs claimed a 57-55 victory in Tulsa on Jan. 7, before the Hurricane took home a 66-60 win in Dallas on Jan. 28.
Tulsa won its only C-USA Tournament matchup against Marshall, 80-64, in the quarterfinal round of the 2009-10 tournament at the BOK Center in Tulsa. TU and SMU have never met in the C-USA Championship.
