Men's Basketball Opens C-USA Tournament vs. Marshall Thursday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The third-seeded Tulsa men's basketball team opens the 2012 Conference USA Men's Basketball Tournament against sixth-seeded Marshall at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinal round at the FedEx Forum.
The game will be televised by CBS Sports Network, and can be heard on the Golden Hurricane Radio Network, which in Tulsa is KRMG AM 740/102.3 FM. Live audio and live stats will be available at www.TulsaHurricane.com.
Jordan Clarkson leads the Golden Hurricane (17-13, 10-6 C-USA), which scores 66.4 points per game, with 16.6 points and 2.6 assists per contest. Scottie Haralson averages 11.0 points and makes 2.9 three-pointers per game, while Steven Idlet scores 10.3 points and grabs 5.2 rebounds per game. Tim Peete also dishes 2.2 assists per outing, while Eric McClellan scores 8.0 points with 2.1 assists, and Kodi Maduka leads TU with 6.2 rebounds and adds 7.9 points and 1.7 blocks.
The Hurricane ranks 23rd in the nation in rebounding margin, averaging 36.3 rebounds per game to its opponents' 30.2 rpg. The TU defense holds its foes to a .416 field goal percentage and 63.2 points per game - including a .416 field goal percentage and 61.8 ppg in C-USA play. Tulsa also ranks 23rd in the country in blocked shots, averaging 5.0 per contest. TU shoots 45 percent from the floor.
Marshall (19-12, 9-7 C-USA) is led by DeAndre Kane, who averages 15.9 points and 5.4 rebounds, while Damier Pitts averages 14.4 points and 4.4 assists per game. Dennis Tinnon leads the Herd with 10.0 rebounds and adds 9.8 points, and Shaquille Johnson scores 8.6 points per contest. The Thundering Herd scores 69.8 points per game, shooting .434 from the floor, .306 from three-point range and .609 from the free throw line, and allow opponents to score 66.2 points, shooting .447 from the field and .310 from downtown. Marshall ranks seventh in the nation in rebounding margin (7.7), averaging 40.0 rebounds and allowing 32.2 rebounds per game.
This is the 13th meeting between Tulsa and Marshall. Tulsa leads the series 8-4. All of the meetings have come since both schools have been members of Conference USA. The Hurricane defeated the Thundering Herd, 79-70, on Feb. 4 in Tulsa. TU won the only meeting between the two schools in the C-USA Tournament, an 80-64 victory at the BOK Center in 2010. Marshall won each of the last two meetings in Huntington, in 2010 and 2011. Tulsa had won the four games prior to that run. TU has a 6-0 record in Tulsa, including 5-0 at the Reynolds Center and 1-0 at the BOK Center. Marshall leads the series in Huntington, 4-1.
