TU Opens C-USA Tournament vs. East Carolina Thursday March 13, 2013
C-USA Men's Basketball Tournament Central TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa opens the 2013 Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship Thursday evening with a quarterfinal round matchup against East Carolina at 8:30 p.m. at the BOK Center. This is the second meeting this season between the fifth-seeded Golden Hurricane (16-14, 8-8 C-USA) and the fourth-seeded Pirates (18-11, 9-7 C-USA). The teams last met on Feb. 20 in Tulsa, where ECU claimed a 72-63 victory. Thursday's game will be televised by CBS Sports Network and broadcast on KRMG AM 740/102.3 FM in Tulsa, and on www.TulsaHurricane.com.
This will be the 12th meeting between TU and ECU, and third in C-USA Tournament action. The Hurricane won both previous contests, 65-60 in 2007, and 66-49, in 2008.

The Golden Hurricane averages 67.9 points and 36.7 rebounds per game, and shoots 43 percent from the field, 34 percent from three-point range and 67 percent from the free throw line. TU allows 67.3 points and 34.8 rebounds per contest, as well as a .404 field goal percentage and a .324 three-point percentage. East Carolina averages 77.2 points and 36.0 rebounds per game and shoots .449 from the field, .349 from beyond the arc, and .716 from the free throw line. The Pirates allow opponents 72.3 points and 38.0 rebounds per contest, and a .436 field goal percentage and .343 three-point percentage. Maurice Kemp leads C-USA in scoring, averaging 18.4 points per game, and adds 7.7 rebounds. Miguel Paul ranks second in the league with 6.4 assists per contest, and adds 13.1 points. Akeem Richmond scores 11.1 points and averages 3.1 three-pointers per contest, while Robert Sampson scores 9.0 points and leads ECU with 9.0 rebounds. Ty Armstrong contributes 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per outing. This is the 12th meeting between Tulsa and East Carolina. The Hurricane leads the series 9-2 and has won eight of the last nine meetings. The Pirates took the regular season meeting in Tulsa, 72-63, on Feb. 20. Tulsa has a 4-1 mark at home, 3-1 on the road and 2-0 in neutral site games. The Hurricane won last year's meeting in Greenville, 70-67.
