May 5, 2014
TULSA, Okla. - First-year University of Tulsa Head Coach Frank Haith has signed his first addition to the Golden Hurricane since becoming head coach, in 6'3" shooting guard Petar Rusic, it was announced Monday.
Rusic, a native of Oakville, Ontario, was born in Serbia, but grew up in the Toronto area. He attended Findlay Prep in 2011-12, but missed the season with a knee injury. He spent the 2012-13 school year at 22 Feet Academy in Jackson, Ky., and sat out the 2013-14 academic year.
At 22 Feet Academy, Rusic poured in 19.3 points per game and made nearly 44 percent of his 3-point attempts while playing for head coach Ryan Schmidt. He averaged about 3.5 threes per game, and on one occasion recovered from an 0-for-4 shooting start to sink seven of his next eight 3-pointers in the ballgame.
"We're excited about Petar being a part of the Tulsa family," Haith said. "He is an experienced player, a very talented shooter and a very bright young man. He is a tough kid. We're excited to have him join our program, and we look forward to seeing him on the court for us next season."
Schmidt said, "I loved coaching Petar, because he was obviously a very good shooter. The second-best attribute I loved was his toughness. He's tough as nails. I think from a fan standpoint, they're going to love watching him play. I'm excited for him and I know he is excited for the opportunity. I'll be excited next year to turn on the TV and watch him play."
Rusic will join November signee Micah Littlejohn as freshman for the Hurricane in the 2014-15 season. Littljohn is a 6'6" wing from Mansfield, Texas.
