TULSA HOSTS UCONN, CINCINNATI, MEMPHIS AND SMU DURING 2014-15 BASKETBALL SEASON
May 28, 2014
Miami, Fla. - The American Athletic Conference announced today the basketball conference opponents for the 2014-15 season at the league's Annual Spring Meetings.
Tulsa joins the American Athletic Conference on July 1, 2014 along with East Carolina and Tulane, all three moving from Conference USA. American Athletic Conference teams will play an 18-game league schedule in men's basketball with each team playing eight of its 10 opponents twice and the other two opponents once each, one at home and one away.
The defending Conference USA champions, Tulsa (21-13) will host Cincinnati (27-7) and play at UCF (13-18), playing those two schools just once, in its inaugural season as a member of the American Athletic Conference.
Defending NCAA Champion UCONN highlights the teams that Tulsa will play home-and-home in 2014-15. The Huskies posted an overall 32-8 record and defeated Kentucky to claim the 2014 national championship last season.
Tulsa also plays home-and-home against former Conference USA foes Memphis, SMU, Houston, East Carolina, and Tulane. Memphis, SMU and Houston were members of C-USA through the 2012-13 season. Memphis leads the overall series 21-14, while Tulsa has a series edge against both SMU (30-14) and Houston (25-21).
Tulsa also leads the series against East Carolina by a count of 11-2 and Tulane 11-5 as the Hurricane defeated both teams last season in Conference USA play.
In addition to UConn, Cincinnati and Memphis made NCAA Tournament appearances last season, while SMU advanced to the finals of the NIT.
The Hurricane also plays Temple and South Florida this season in American Athletic Conference action. Tulsa holds a 2-0 series record against Temple with the last meeting coming in the 1996-97 season. Tulsa and USF will play for the first time on the basketball court this season.
