Senior center Brandon Kurtz has scored in double-figures in 22
games this season, and now has 48 career
double-figure scoring games and 10 double-doubles
to his credit in 68 career games played. Kurtz
has had six double-figure rebounding games this
season, including five in the last 10 games. He
has five double-doubles this season, including
three of the last six games.
At the WAC
Tournament, Kurtz had back-to-back double-double
games with 13 points and 11 rebounds against TCU,
and 12 points and 12 rebounds vs. Fresno State.
Against SMU (3-4-00), Kurtz tallied a career-best
18 rebounds while adding 15 points, 4 assists, 3
blocks and 2 steals in 45 minutes of playing
time.
He had his first
double-double of the season against Hawaii with
18 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting .583
(7-of-12) from the field. He had his second
double-double of the year against San Jose State
(2-17-00) with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while
also adding a career-best 5 assists.
Kurtz was named to
the all-WAC second team for the second
consecutive season this year, joining junior
David Shelton on the second team. He averages
11.0 points, which is fourth on the team, and
team-bests of 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots.
He scored a
season-best 21 points to lead the Hurricane in
scoring against TCU in the first meeting this
year, while adding 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. He
was named the WAC's Player of the Week for his
performance in that game.
After missing two
starts (Delaware State and Boston College), Kurtz
was back in the starting lineup against UNC
Charlotte and tallied 17 points on 7-of-10 from
the field, while adding 4 rebounds, 2 assists and
2 blocks. In the next contest vs. Tennessee,
Kurtz had 11 points and 9 rebounds in just 18
minutes.
In his two
non-starts, Kurtz averaged 5.5 points and 2.0
rebounds. In his two starts following that, Kurtz
averaged 14.0 points and 6.5 rebounds.
Kurtz has a
team-leading 47 blocked shots and now has 80
career blocked shots for fifth place on the
school's all-time blocked shots chart, needing
six more to move into a fourth-place tie. He had
a career-best 4 blocks against UAB, Oral Roberts
and Delaware State this season.
