With Tulsa's 84-44 victory against Centenary on Jan. 24, the Hurricane earned its 19th win of the season for a 19-1 record, which broke the record for the best start ever. It bettered Tulsa's 18-1 record from the 1920-21 season, as that team finished the season with an 18-2 mark. Tulsa's 1983-84 team registered a 17-1 record before dropping to 17-2 in its' next outing. Tulsa improved its record start to 20-1 with a 89-71 win against UTEP, before dropping to 20-2 with a loss at Fresno State.
