With Tulsa's double overtime 83-78 win against SMU in the regular season finale, the Hurricane captured the Western Athletic Conference regular season championship. It marks the second straight season in which Tulsa at least shared a WAC title, and in four years as a member of the WAC the Hurricane has won two league crowns. A year ago, the Hurricane tied for the regular season WAC Mountain Division crown with UNLV. Before joining the WAC for the 1996-97 season, Tulsa was a member of the Missouri Valley Conference for 62 years and won five regular season MVC crowns.
