Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada - Senior forward Ray Reese scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed six rebounds as Tulsa defeated the University of British Columbia, 76-65, in front of 500 fans on Saturday afternoon in a Canadian exhibition contest. Junior center Jerome Jordan added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Hurricane
The Hurricane built a 47-31 halftime lead, but was out-scored in the second half 34-29. Tulsa scored 22 first quarter points and 25 in the second quarter. Tulsa had its biggest lead of 20 points three different times in the fourth quarter, with the first coming at 66-46 with 8:00 minutes left in the final quarter.
Tulsa's final 20-point margin came with 3:38 left in the game at 72-52 when freshman Armond Battle hit two free throws.
Tulsa played 15 players as 10 of those played double-digit minutes in the first of two games on Saturday for the Hurricane. Tulsa faced Trinity Western later tonight at 9 pm (CT).
The Hurricane shot just 33-percent from the field and 32-percent from three-point range, but did connect of 22-of-24 free throws for 91.7 percent. Tulsa out-rebouned UBC 48-41. UBC shot 35-percent from the field, but was held to just 20-percent from three-point range by connecting on 3-of-15.
Tulsa also received 9 pointe from Justin Hurtt, 8 points from Glen Andrews and 7 points from Ben Uzoh. Freshmen Brandon Jackson had 6 points and Bassel Bawji scored 5 points for the Hurricane.
UBC's Chris Dyck also scored a game-high 21 points to lead the home team.
Tulsa will close out the three-game, two-day exhibition trip to north of the border on Saturday afternoon against Simon Fraser University at 3:00 pm (CT).
