Tulsa Men's, Women's Basketball Teams to Host Doubleheader This Tuesday

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa men's and women's basketball teams will host a doubleheader this Tuesday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The TU women's team will take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 3:05 p.m., while the Golden Hurricane men's squad will host Texas State at 7:05 p.m.
On the men's side, the Golden Hurricane (3-4) leads the all-time series with Texas State (4-5), 3-0. Tulsa is 2-0 against the Bobcats at home and 1-0 on a neutral court. Tulsa topped Texas State, formerly Southwest Texas State, 81-69, in the last meeting between the teams on Dec. 28, 1997. Jason Parker leads the team in scoring with 18.3 points per game, while Jarius Glenn is the top rebounder with 7.6 boards per outing.
The Tulsa women's team (4-3) hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (8-4) in the final game for both teams before the Christmas holiday. TU will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 28 against Texas-Pan American. Tulsa is 2-1 at home this season with victories over Oral Roberts and UMKC, and suffered its only loss to Arkansas. The Hurricane will look to put together a two-game home win streak prior to the Christmas holidays. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi marks TU's second game in a six-game homestand for the Golden Hurricane. Senior Candice Brewer leads Tulsa in scoring with 11.3 points, while redshirt freshman Jillian Robbins leads the team in rebounding with 7.7 boards per game.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, which is an independent school, has already played 12 games this season, including seven games during the month of December. The Islanders opened the season with six wins in their first seven games, but suffered three straight losses to Southern Mississippi (64-58), Arizona State (87-74) and Northern Arizona (73-64). TAMUCC has since rebounded with back-to-back wins over Central Michigan and Texas State. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 1-4 on the road this season with its lone road victory coming against Portland. Sophomore Terra Andrews is TAMUCC's scoring leader with 12.5 points per game, while junior-transfer Jackie Ododa is the top rebounder with 8.7 boards per outing. Jodi Kest is in her second season as the head coach and has an overall record of 23-16 at the school.
Tuesday's game marks the second meeting between Tulsa and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islanders won the only previous meeting between the two teams with a 58-55 victory in Tulsa during the 2000-01 season.
