THIRD YEAR Paul Randolph is in his third season at The University of Tulsa as senior associate head coach defense & defensive line coach, and is in his 12th season coaching on the collegiate level. Randolph also coaches the Golden Hurricane defensive line. Randolph has coached two-time second-team all-Conference USA selection Moton Hopkins at defensive end. Randolph's defensive front has helped the Hurricane defense rank 37th nationally in rush defense in 2008. Randolph spent the 2006 season as the defensive coordinator at Rice University, where he guided the Owls development in the 3-3-5 defensive scheme. In addition to overseeing the Owls defensive game plan, Randolph also coached Rice's linebackers. He moved to Rice after three seasons as the defensive ends coach at the University of Alabama (2003-05), where he helped develop one of the top defenses in the country. In 2005, Alabama led the nation in scoring defense (10.7 points per game) and was second in total defense (255.1 yards per game). The Crimson Tide also ranked in the top 10 in rushing defense (ninth, 94.3 yards per game) and pass defense (fifth, 160.8 yards per game) on its way to a victory over Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. Alabama also ranked second nationally in total defense in 2004. In the spring of 2004, Randolph was named as one of Rivals.com top-25 recruiters. Before his three-year stint at Alabama, Randolph also coached at West Virginia, Toledo, Illinois State, Valdosta State and Tennessee-Martin. In his coaching career, Randolph has coached in five bowl games, including the 2001 Motor City Bowl with Toledo; the 2002 Continental Tire Bowl with West Virginia; the 2004 Music City Bowl and 2006 Cotton Bowl with Alabama; and the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl with Rice last season. He played 10 seasons in the Canadian Football League, eight with Winnipeg (1988-95). He helped the Blue Bombers win Grey Cup titles in 1988 and '90. Then came two seasons (1996-97) as team captain and player-coach with the Montreal Alouettes. He was inducted into the Blue Bombers' Hall of Fame in 2002. Randolph received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering technology from the University of Tennessee-Martin in 1990. He and his wife, Mia, have two children: son, Patrick, played football at Rice University, and a daughter, Mya.
