Tulsa Postgame Notes vs Fresno State

Fresno State won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Tulsa opted to take the opening kickoff and defend the south end zone.
After sitting out the first three games, junior linebacker Shawn Jackson made his 24th career start. He has started in 24 of 27 games in which he has been active.
At the 9:24 mark of the first quarter, Fresno State linebacker Patrick Su'a intercepted Cody Green's pass and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown. It was the first interception return for a touchdown against Tulsa since Deron Wilson (Southern Miss) returned a 36-yard interception for a touchdown (11/26/10).
At the 8:21 mark of the first quarter, junior tailback Ja'Terian Douglas scored on a 32-yard touchdown run. Nine of his 11 career touchdowns have been 15 yards or longer.
At the end of the first quarter, Fresno State led Tulsa 20-7. It was the most points allowed by Tulsa in a first quarter since trailing 20-0 against Oklahoma State (9/18/10).
At the 14:15 mark of the second quarter, senior defensive tackle Daeshon Bufford sacked Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr and caused a fumble on the play. It was Bufford's second sack of the season and first career forced fumble.
On that same play, senior defensive end Jared St. John recorded his first career fumble recovery.
At the 12:32 mark of the second quarter, senior defensive tackle Derrick Jackson tackled Carr for his first sack of the season and second for his career.
At the 9:34 mark of the second quarter, sophomore receiver Keyarris Garrett scored his third career touchdown on a 31-yard pass from Green.
At the 5:37 mark of the second quarter, junior receiver Jordan James caught a 42-yard pass from Green. It was his longest catch of the season and second longest of his career. James caught a 68-yard pass against UAB last season (10/15/11).
At the 12:33 mark of the third quarter, junior linebacker DeWitt Jennings recorded his first career blocked PAT. It was the second blocked PAT of the season. Trent Martin blocked at PAT against Nicholls State last week (9/15/12).
At the 11:33 mark of the third quarter, Shawn Jackson recorded his first forced fumble of the season and fourth of his career. On the same play, senior defensive back Lowell Rose picked up his first career fumble recovery.
Sophomore Cole Way punted the ball nine times for a career-best 42.9 average.
Tulsa had three players with 10 or more tackles: DeAundre Brown (11), Shawn Jackson (11) and Dexter McCoil (10). This is the second game this season where Tulsa's defense has produced three players with 10 or more tackles. The previous game was against Iowa State: Brown (13), Marco Nelson (13) and McCoil (10).
Fresno State's two interception returns for touchdowns were the most Tulsa has allowed since East Carolina returned two Kinne interceptions for touchdowns (11/15/09).
Tulsa's defense held Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr to 231 passing yards, his lowest total of the season and lowest total in 11 games. Carr had only 126 yards passing against fifth-ranked Boise State last season (10/7/11).
