Dallas, Texas - -- SMU handed Tulsa its' first Conference USA loss this season with a 35-27 victory over the Golden Hurricane in front of 15,336 fans at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Tulsa trailed 35-6 and scored 21 straight points to cut the Mustangs' lead to eight points, 35-27, but the Hurricane ran out of time in the comeback bid.

Tulsa had one last chance to pull to within two points when a Cody Green `hail mary' pass to the goal line was caught at the one-yard line by Keyarris Garrett as time ran out.

The Hurricane finished the regular season with a 9-3 overall record and 7-1 C-USA mark, but will still host the C-USA Football Championship Game next Saturday against the UCF Knights.

A blocked Tulsa punt and two turnovers led to 21 SMU points in the first 20 minutes of the game as the Mustangs built a 21-0 lead before the Hurricane managed their first score. SMU went on to take a 28-6 halftime lead and held on for the victory. With the win, SMU becomes bowl eligible with a 6-6 overall record.

The two-point pass attempt failed, making the score 35-12, with 0:56 left on the third quarter clock. Neither team could manage much offense in the first quarter and it was a blocked punt that turned the tide for SMU and put the Mustangs ahead 7-0. Cole Way's punt was blocked and landed at the Tulsa 3-yard line with 1:47 on the game clock. One play later Zach Line ran in the three yards for the SMU touchdown.

Another Hurricane turnover, an interception of a Green pass, with 13:43 left in the second quarter gave the Mustangs the ball at the Tulsa 35-yard line. SMU took just 2:01 off the clock to take a 21-0 lead with 11:42 to play in the first half.

Following an injury to Brian DeShane that saw him leave the field with a leg injury, the Tulsa offense completed that possession with its first score of the game, a nine-yard pass to Alex Singleton. The Hurricane drive went 75 yards in 12 plays, taking 4:56 off the clock, but the PAT went wide right, cutting the SMU lead to 21-6.
