TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa got on the scoreboard first but could not overcome a big fourth quarter run by seventh-ranked Houston, as the Golden Hurricane fell, 48-16, in front of a crowd of 29,015 Friday afternoon at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

The Golden Hurricane (8-4, 7-1 C-USA) was within 11 points at the end of the third quarter, but Houston broke it open in the fourth quarter. The TU offense ran a balanced attack, rushing for 161 yards and passing for 176 yards as it totaled 337 for the game. Houston improved to 12-0 as Case Keenum passed for 457 yards and five touchdowns for the Cougars.

Shawn Jackson led the TU defense with 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Alan Dock and Curnelius Arnick tallied nine and eight tackles, respectively.

Tulsa forced a punt on Houston first drive, and then drove 76 yards in 10 plays for the first touchdown of the game. Kinne hit Willie Carter on an 11-yard pass to give TU a 7-0 lead.

Houston took the ensuing kickoff and drove 80 yards for a touchdown. Cory Dorris blocked the point-after attempt to make the score 7-6, TU.

Kevin Fitzpatrick kicked a career-long-tying 52-yard field goal to cap a 22-yard drive by Tulsa, after the teams traded punts. The field goal gave the Hurricane a 10-6 lead with 1:14 left in the opening quarter.

Houston punted on the first drive of the second quarter, but after driving down the field, Tulsa could not convert a fourth-and-one run up the middle by Alex Singleton.

The teams traded punts - TU forcing Houston's fourth kick of the first half, and Houston took over on the TU 45 yard line. Keenum tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Charles Sims to give the Cougars a 13-10 lead with 4:13 left in the half.

Tulsa was driving following the Houston touchdown, but a fumble in the red zone stopped the drive, and Houston took a 13-10 lead into halftime.

The Golden Hurricane went three-and-out on the first possession of the second half. Houston scored on the next drive on a 33-yard pass from Keenum to Patrick Edwards on a fourth-and-10 play.

TU drove to a field goal on the following drive as Fitzpatrick connected on a 36-yard attempt to pull Tulsa to within a touchdown at 20-13, UH.

The Hurricane forced a fumble on the first play on the Cougar drive, and Fitzpatrick knocked a 51-yard field goal through the north end zone uprights. It was his second field goal of longer than 50 yards in the contest.

After trading three-and-outs, Keenum threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Edwards on fourth down, giving the Cougars a 27-16 lead with 1:23 left in the third quarter.

Houston extended its lead to 34-16 when Michael Hayes dove in from one yard out to cap a 10-play, 73-yard drive with 11:17 remaining in the game.

Keenum hit Justin Johnson with an eight-yard touchdown and following an interception, UH quarterback Cotton Turner found Edwards in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown to give the Cougars a 48-16 lead.
