TULSA FOOTBALL BACK ON THE FIELD
March 26, 2014
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa football team returned to H.A. Chapman Stadium on Tuesday to resume spring practice following last week's Spring Break. It was practice No. 4 for the Golden Hurricane and the first time in pads, as Tulsa practiced for two hours on the Skelly Field turf.
"Our first three days before spring break were the NCAA mandated non-padded practice, where it was a lot of teaching and installing techniques and schemes," said Tulsa Head Coach Bill Blankenship.
Despite the rust from a week away from football, Blankenship was pleased with Tuesday's workout.
"I thought for the first day back, practice went well. We did reasonably well offensively and defensively. The guys were able to retain well and knew what they were doing. We made a lot of mistakes, but this was really the first day where we'll get some film and be able to really start evaluating our personnel," added Blankenship.
The Hurricane went through a short scrimmage situation.
"We had a live goal-line period. One thing we took from last year was that we felt like we have to do a better job both on offense and defense of winning in the red zone," said Blankenship. "So, we wanted to start on the first day of pads on the three-yard line and compete. I thought it was a draw. The defense got some stops and the offense got some scores."
Tulsa will return to the practice field this week on Thursday and Saturday.
