Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa senior safety Demarco Nelson was named to the Phil Steele Magazine Preseason All-America Team, it was announced today by the magazine.

Nelson, a 6'0", 195-pound safety, enters the 2013 season having played in 40 career games. He has totaled 239 tackles, 14 pass break-ups and eight interceptions during his career. In 2012, Nelson had 80 stops, four tackles for lost yardage, three pass break-ups and two pick-offs.

The native of Glenpool, Oklahoma, Nelson was a Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-American in 2010.

In addition, Tulsa had 12 players named to Phil Steele's preseason All-Conference USA Team. Joining Nelson on the first-team all-conference squad are running back Trey Watts, offensive lineman Stetson Burnett and linebacker Shawn Jackson.

Second-team all-league selections include receiver Keyarris Garrett, offensive guard Jake Alexander and linebacker Trent Martin, while third-team picks are quarterback Cody Green, receiver Jordan James. Fourth-team selections include running back Ja'Terian Douglas, defensive end Brentom Todd and punter Cole Way, as Watts doubled as a fourth-team pick at a kick returner.
