Tulsa's Gabe Moyer Earns C-USA Postgraduate Scholarship
June 13, 2012
IRVING, Texas - Conference USA announced today the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Award winners for the 12 league institutions. Offensive lineman Gabe Moyer was selected as the scholarship winner from The University of Tulsa. Moyer will attend graduate school at Tulsa, while continuing to play on the Golden Hurricane football team. Moyer has two years of eligibility remaining, but after 3.5 years graduated this past May with a 3.017 grade point average in management. He will work towards his master's degree in business administration. The 6'2", 291-pound offensive guard sat out the 2009 season due to a red-shirt year and has seen action in 16 games over the last two seasons. He came to Tulsa in January 2008 after gray-shirting that previous semester. A majority of Moyer's playing time has been on special teams, but he came out of spring practice sharing the top spot on the depth chart at right guard with Stetson Burnett. Moyer attended Bishop McGuiness High School in Oklahoma City. This is the fourth year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in November 2008. The conference annually presents the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarship awards to graduates as selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
