Tulsa, Oklahoma - Athlon Sports has named five Tulsa football players to the magazine's preseason all-Conference USA first team, while one Hurricane player earned second team recognition.

First-team selections are running back/kick returner Trey Watts and offensive linemen Stetson Burnett and Jake Alexander, while on the defensive side of the ball linebacker Shawn Jackson and safety Demarco Nelson were the first-team selections. Receiver Keyarris Garrett earned second-team mention on the preseason list.

Watts enters his senior season with 2,186 career rushing yards to rank ninth on the school's all-time rushing chart. In 2012, he led the Hurricane in rushing with 1,108 yards and three touchdowns.

Burnett and Alexander are the two returning starters to the Hurricane offensive front. Burnett has started 31 career games and Alexander has 13 starts, all coming last season.

Jackson had 88 tackles and 10.5 tackles for -36 yards in only 10 games last year for the Hurricane. With 37 TFLs and 18 quarterback sacks, Jackson enters the 2013 season needing three TFLs and two sacks to tie the school records.

Nelson, like Jackson has totaled more than 200 career tackles, and in 2012 tallied 80 tackles, three pass break-ups and two interceptions.

As a sophomore, Garrett was Tulsa's leading receiver in 2012 with 845 yards and nine touchdowns on 67 receptions.

Tulsa opens the 2013 season on Thursday, August 29 in Ohio against the Bowling Green Falcons. Game time has been set for 6 pm (CT)/7 pm (ET) and can be seen on ESPN U. The Hurricane will kick-off the home season on Sept. 7 against the Colorado State Rams with a 6:00 pm kick time.
