Southampton, PA - The Maxwell Football Club announced today that University of Tulsa senior running back Trey Watts was one of 85 players named to the watch list for the 77th Annual Maxwell Award.

The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including as a player, a sportswriter and an official.

Watts is one of only two players from Oklahoma colleges on the Maxwell list. The other is Oklahoma quarterback Blake Bell. Watts is also one of three players from Conference USA schools on the list, as the other two include Marshall quarterback Rakeem Cato and Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon.

Watts, a 5'11", 200-pound running back, finished the 2012 season with 1,108 yards and three touchdowns. He has seven career 100-yard rushing games, five of which came during the 2012 campaign. Watts also caught 58 passes for 757 yards, and totaled 586 kickoff return yards and 154 punt return yards in 2012.

A year ago, Watts ranked 11th nationally for all-purpose yards with 2,191 yards, while totaling five 200+ all-purpose yard games. He earned second team all-Conference USA honors as a kick returner and honorable mention accolades as a running back. Watts ended the season as the 2012 AutoZone Liberty Bowl's Game MVP in leading Tulsa to a 31-17 victory over Iowa State.

Last week, Watts was named to the preseason watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, given annually to the most versatile player in major college football

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Oct. 29, while the three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 18.
