Tulsa Returnees Report to Preseason Football Camp
Aug. 1, 2012
Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Football Coach Bill Blankenship welcomed 72 returning players to campus today. Those 73 returnees join 32 newcomers for a total of 105 players kicking off preseason camp on Thursday morning.
"We're really excited," said Blankenship. "The guys look like they have a real eager demeanor about them. I think they're really looking forward to cranking it up tomorrow."
Practice number one will take place on Thursday morning with a 7:30 am closed workout on Harwell Field.
"The first 10 practices are devoted to trying to see who's ready to play and who's not," said Blankenship. "When we get closer to practice number 13 that's when we'll decide to set-up our scout teams and get ready for Iowa State. The first two weeks we're trying to evaluate and see who can help us."
"With the veterans we want to see how fast we can go when we begin tomorrow. We'd like to think we'll have real good retention from the spring, and if we do that allows us to move pretty quickly with our installation," said Blankenship. "Offensively and defensively we'll do the same thing - trying to be focused on moving as fast as we can. Get it all in, and then we'll go back and start slowing down and teaching."
As for the roster, red-shirt freshman Gary Lee did not return to the team. Linebacker Zik Asiegbu and defensive tackle Joe King, along with walk-ons Josh Cunningham, a linebacker, and tight end Colby Scott did not report today, but will report when school begins on August 20th. Walk-on freshman Shawn Norman reported today.
Tulsa's Annual Media Day will begin at 11:00 am on Friday. Bill Blankenship's press conference at 11 am will be video-streamed on www.TulsaHurricane.com, while individual press conferences with Defensive Coordinator Brent Guy and Offensive Coordinator Greg Peterson will be aired online following Blankenship.
