TULSA RETURNS TO PRACTICE FIELD AFTER DAY OFF
Aug. 13, 2012
Tulsa, Oklahoma - After taking Sunday off from the practice field, the Tulsa football team practiced for two hours at Harwell Field on Monday morning as the Hurricane went through its' 11th practice session of preseason camp.
Tulsa scrimmaged on Saturday morning before getting a day to rest their legs. "We had a fairly physical scrimmage on Saturday and felt it was important to give our guys the evening and Sunday off," said Blankenship. "Sunday was also time to move in the dorms and apartments and new students were arriving on campus, so that's all part to getting acclimated to college life."
"We really had a spirited practice today. We focused on pass under pressure situations and blitz situations for the defense pressuring the quarterback to be able to recognize that and get the ball out," added Blankenship. "It was a fairly even day. I told the guys at the end of practice that if I scored it, it would be 5 to 4 and one tie with the defensive group leading the offense."
After a day off following Saturday's scrimmage, Blankenship was pleased the way the returning players responded.
"The veterans bounced back really well, whereas for the freshmen this is a little more of a grind than what they're used to. I really challenged them and told them tomorrow will be a scrimmage where they get to show us that either they're ready for this season to keep being considered or maybe they're not. Hopefully, that's what we'll accomplish tomorrow in our scrimmage," Blankenship said.
Blankenship was also pleased with the way the defense bounced back after not performing up to the expected level during Saturday's scrimmage.
"The defense came back very focused, the number one unit especially did. That's a mature group. They responded real well to Coach Guy and the challenges he gave them," said Blankenship.
