Tulsa Impressive in Blue-Gold Scrimmage
Aug. 21, 2000
The Tulsa Hurricane offense took the first possession 70 yards in 17 plays for the lone touchdown on Saturday night at the annual Blue-Gold scrimmage in front of an estimated crowd of 4,300 fans. On the first drive, sophomore quarterback Josh Blankenship completed 6-of-9 passes for 31 yards and connected with Corey Brown on a four-year touchdown strike. On the ground, freshmen Jorma Bailey rushed four times for 18 yards and Donte' Hart had 11 yards on four carries on the opening drive. Michael Wall directed Tulsa's second drive, and took the Hurricane offense 44 yards to the 26-yard line, but a Ricky Tallant 43-yard field goal was no good. Later in the contest, Chris Earnest hit on field goals from 45 and 47 yards. Blankenship had the Hurricane offense at the 14-yard line on two completions to Brown totalling 56 yards, but failed on a fourth-and-one situation. Two series later, Blankenship again had the Hurricane offense at the 11-yard line, but had to settle on a field goal. For the game, Blankenship completed 61-percent of his passes for 191 yards and one touchdown, while Wall threw for 89 yards while completing 5-of-11 passes. Brown was on the receiving end of nine passes for 111 yards to lead the Hurricane receivers. The leading ballcarrier was freshman Jorma Bailey with 51 yards on 11 carries.
