Ames, Iowa - The Tulsa football team went thru its final preparations on Friday afternoon before boarding a plane for Ames, Iowa as the Golden Hurricane opens the 2012 season against the Iowa State Cyclones, Saturday afternoon at Jack Trice Stadium.

The flight from Tulsa to Des Moines International Airport took 50 minutes as the Hurricane landed at 4:35 pm. Tulsa traveled 25 minutes to Ankeny where Tulsa will lodge overnight.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 pm and will be televised on the FOX Sports Network. Fans in Oklahoma can see the game on FOX Sports Southwest, Channel 27 in the Tulsa area.

This is only the second-ever meeting between the two schools as ISU captured a 27-6 road victory in the 1961 campaign.

Tulsa comes into the game with 13 seniors in the starting lineup, but will be with a new signal-caller as junior Cody Green, a Nebraska transfer, takes over the reins of a Hurricane offense that gained 440 yards and scored 33.1 points a year ago.

Tulsa returns 85-percent of its rushing total from last year with 2,124 yards and four of the top-five returning receivers are back as well after totaling 177 receptions for 2,351 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Defensively, Tulsa has three of four starting lineman back in the line-up including tackles Daeshon Bufford and Derrick Jackson and end Cory Dorris, while a secondary returns with 92 starts among the four starters - seniors Dexter McCoil, Lowell Rose and John Flanders and junior Demarco Nelson.

The Cylones have decided on Steele Jantz as the starting quarterback, but it is expected that Jared Barnett will also see time behind center. Whoever is on the field quarterbacking, he'll have plenty of weapons, led by senior receivers Josh Lenz, Chris Young and Aaron Horne and a pair of junior running backs, James White and Jeff Woody.

The Iowa State defense is led by senior linebackers A.J. Klein and Jake Knott, as both were all-Big 12 first team selections a year ago and collected 116 and 115 tackles, respectively. Klein was also named the Big XII's co-Defensive Player of the Year.
