Jonathan Chavira Selected as TU's Student-Athlete of the Month for September
Sept. 28, 2011
Tulsa, Oklahoma - Sophomore football player Jonathan Chavira was selected as The University of Tulsa Student-Athlete of the Month for September.
The Tulsa Student-Athlete of the Month award is given to a TU student-athlete that has a notable positive attitude towards school and is working hard to improve and excel as a student. The student-athlete must have outstanding character and integrity, contributes outside the playing arena, and be nominated by a coach, tutor/mentor or athletic administrator.
Chavira, a petroleum engineering major, works extremely hard in the classroom and is a wonderful example for students who participate in athletics. Since he is a non-scholarship student-athlete, Chavira is employed during the summer months to help fund his education. He also volunteers with community service projects.
"Jonathan is one of the hardest working young men I have been around," Defensive Second Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Van Malone said. "He is respectful, always strives to be a top student and I am proud to be his coach."
