Tulsa's Wilson Holloway Helps The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Raise Awareness and Funds

PSA with Tulsa football player Wilson Holloway will air on `Cane Vision during next game

Oct. 9, 2009

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and the University of Tulsa (TU) will join forces, along with TU football player, Wilson Holloway, a Hodgkin lymphoma survivor, to raise awareness of blood cancers during the October 14th football game vs. Boise State, which will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Holloway, a red-shirt sophomore athletically, who has endured many rounds of chemotherapy and two stem cell transplants over the past two years, will emphasize the importance of supporting LLS's mission to find cures for blood cancers and help improve the quality of life of patients and their families, through a message played on `Cane Vision, the stadium jumbotron, during the game.

Holloway will also promote LLS's new mobile giving campaign. Simply by texting LLS to 90999 during the game, a $5 donation will be made to LLS and the amount is added to the user's cell phone bill. * LLS will also have an information tent set up at the game with volunteers and survivors standing by to answer questions and provide literature about blood cancers. Visitors to the tent will also be able to make a donation to support LLS's blood cancer research funding and patient services initiatives.

Holloway was the 2008 recipient of the FedEx Orange Bowl/FWAA Courage Award for his battle with cancer. Since learning of his selection as the winner of the Courage Award last October, Holloway has battled cancer two more times and in August had his second stem cell transplant, this time from his older brother. He is doing well as he states in the PSA, is attending classes at TU and plans to be back on the football field next year

"This Awareness Night is an opportunity to increase the public's understanding of blood cancers and encourage people to support the funding of research to find cures and education programs to help patients have the best possible outcomes throughout their cancer experience," said Oklahoma Chapter Campaign Manager, Jill Hull.
