Tulsa's Shoals Earns WAC Player of the Week Award
Oct. 16, 2000 Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa wide receiver Donald Shoals was named the Western Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office today. Shoals, a junior from Enid, Oklahoma (Fort Scott CC), caught 11 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns at New Mexico State. The receiving total is the third highest in both WAC and Tulsa history. His two touchdowns came on passes of 11 and 76 yards. Shoals also had receptions covering 43 and 50 yards. The performance marked Tulsa's first 200-plus receiving game since 1993. Shoals ranks second in the nation in punt returns with a 21.3 average, and fourth in receiving yards with a 106.3 yard per game average.
The weekly honor is the second for Shoals this season. He was named
the WAC's Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against
Hawaii on Sept. 30.
