Tulsa's Coleman Named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week
Oct. 29, 2007
Irving, Texas - University of Tulsa senior linebacker Nelson Coleman was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.
Coleman, from Dallas, Texas, totaled a season-high 17 tackles in a 29-23 come-from-behind victory over SMU on Saturday. No tackle was any bigger than the one on fourth-down at the one-yard line when he stopped SMU running back DeMyron Martin with less than two minutes remaining in the game, giving the offense the ball back for the game-winning touchdown drive.
Coleman is second on the team in tackles with 81 stops this season. His 355 career tackles ranks fourth on the school's all-time tackles chart, 34 shy of tying for first-place.
It is the second weekly award for Coleman this year. It's the third time this season that Tulsa has had a weekly award winner, as quarterback Paul Smith was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17.
