Aug. 10, 2000

Senior Martin Maritz, who claimed the individual title at the Western Athletic Conference Golf Championships, was also named the WAC's Player of the Year.

Maritz used a final round 68 to overcome Fresno State's Todd Rose, the leader after two rounds, to claim the conference crown. As a team, Tulsa placed fourth at the WAC Tournament with rounds of 292-299-290 for an 881 total.

On the year, Maritz has placed among the top 20 in all 12 tournaments this season including nine top-10 finishes. Maritz, the nation's 15th-ranked golfer, had two first-place finishes on the season and placed among the top-three seven times.

The honor for Maritz is the second such award for a Tulsa golfer. Earlier, Tulsa sophomore Stacy Prammanasudh was named the WAC's Women's Golfer of the Year.

In addition to Maritz's victory, Tulsa junior Kevin Henry had three straight rounds of 73 to finish in a three-way tie for 10th place, which was his second-best showing of the season in eight tournaments. Seniors Jason Gorman and Todd Eaker placed 27th and 29th, respectively.
