LAFAYETTE, La. - The University of Tulsa men's golf team tied for second place today at the Louisiana Classic, which was held at the par-72 Oakbourne Country Club. The Golden Hurricane had a three-day total of 861 and finished the tournament three-under par.

The team was one of only two teams to card under par in the final round. TU was the only unranked team to finish in the top-five of the tournament.

True freshman Matt Mabrey carded a one-under 71 today and finished tied in fourth place, improving from a tie for 11th after the first two rounds. Mabrey topped the field of Tulsa golfers with three birdies and an eagle in the third round of play.

Tulsa junior Chris Worrell shot an even par today and finished tournament play at two-over par, tying for 23rd. His performance in the third round advanced him 16 spots in the tournament rankings.

Senior Stephen Carney tied for 37th in Lafayette after he shot a one-over 73 today to finish the tournament four-over par at 220.

Junior Mark Mumford had his best round of the classic Tuesday after he finished one-under par for the day and three over for the tournament. He ended play tied in 32nd , a 22-spot improvement from the first two rounds of play.

Sophomore John Young Kim carded an 80 in the third round to total seven-over for the tournament and tie for 51st.

No. 25-ranked LSU took home top honors after shooting a three-round total of 17-under 847. Fellow Conference USA member SMU, ranked 45th, finished tournament play tied with TU at second with 861. The top-five was rounded out by No. 21 Kent State (865) and No. 43 Memphis (866).



Other C-USA members that competed in the tournament were Houston (T-8th) and Southern Miss (12th).

LSU's first place finish was led by Andrew Presley, who took individual honors after shooting 10-under par. Teammate Sang Yi who took second at seven-under par.

The Golden Hurricane next takes to the links March 22-24 in Phoenix, Ariz. for the Desert Shootout.
