Tulsa Men Golfers Lead 2013 Desert Shootout

Goodyear, Arizona - The Tulsa men's golf team carded an opening round 10-under par score of 274 to lead the 16-team field at the 2013 Desert Shootout as four golfers turned in under-par rounds for the Hurricane on Thursday. Tulsa's Chris Worrell and Colton Staggs each carded rounds of three-under par 68 for a sixth-place tie, while Matt Mabrey and Logan McCracken are just one stroke behind at two-under par 69 to pace the Hurricane attack. Mark Mumford also turned in a solid round at the par-71 Palm Valley Golf Course with a one-over par score of 72 for Tulsa. Tulsa has a one-stroke lead over second-place BYU (275), while Denver, Colorado State and Southern Utah are all tied for third place with scores of four-under par 280 to round out the top-five teams. Individually, Illinois' Thomas Pieters has a one-stroke lead after scoring a round of six-under par 65 today.
