Tulsa Men's Golfers in 12th Place at 42nd Annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational

Tempe, Ariz. - The Tulsa men's golf team carded a seven-over par 291 for 12th place after the first round at the 42nd Annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. The tournament will continue with one round on both Saturday and Sunday.
Host and 32nd-ranked Arizona State is in first place with a seven-stroke lead as the Sun Devils posted a 13-under par 271. Forty-sixth ranked Iowa is in second place with a 278, while Iowa State is one stroke back in third place. San Diego is in fourth place with a 283, while Wichita State, Denver and Arizona are all tied for fifth place with 284 scores.
Seniors Logan McCracken and Mark Mumford led the Hurricane with even par 71 scores to tie for 22nd place, while junior Matt Mabrey was three strokes back in 53rd place with a 74. Junior Colton Staggs carded a four-over par 75 and freshman Matthew Marquez turned in a 78 score for 60th and 73rd-place, respectively.
Individually, Arizona State's 27th-ranked Jon Rahm has a three-stroke lead with a nine-under par 62 and Iowa State's Scott Fernandez posted a six-under par 65 for second place. Kevin DeHuff of Pepperdine, Ki Taek Lee of Arizona State and Luis Medina of New Mexico State are all tied for third place with four-under par 67 scores.
