Tulsa Men Golfers in 7th Place After Two Rounds at Desert Shootout

Goodyear, Ariz. - Tulsa carded a score of 291 in second round action today at the 54-hole Desert Shootout for a four-under par 572 total. The Hurricane sits in seventh place after two rounds at the par-72 Palm Valley Golf Course. BYU leads the 15-team field after shooting a second straight day of 14-under par 274 for a 28-under par 548. Host Denver moved into second place with a 582 total, followed by Wichita State (564), San Diego (566) and Air Force (569) rounding out the top-5 schools. Tulsa freshman Matt Mabrey turned in a three-under par score of 69 and sits in 11th place with a 36-hole total of 141, while junior Mark Mumford has a score of 142 for 18th place. He turned in a round of 76 today. Senior Stephen Carney had Tulsa's second-best round of the day with a score of two-under par 70 for a 146 total and 45th place. Junior Chris Worrell shot a score of 77 and has a 147 total for 55th place, while sophomore John Young Kim is in 64th place after today's 76 gives him a score of 149. San Diego's Alex Ching and BYU's Justin Keiley are tied for first place with scores of 12-under par 132. Keiley turned in the best round of the day with a seven-under par 65. The Hurricane has two golfers playing as individuals as well, including Cody Kent is tied for 45th place with a score of 146, while Colton Staggs is in 79th place with a two round score of 151. Kent shot a two-under par 70, while Staggs carded a round of 72 today. The final 18 holes get underway Saturday morning at 7:30 am (PT) in a shotgun start. Team Results 1. BYU 274-274=548 2.
