Tulsa Golfers Place Sixth at Desert Shootout

Goodyear, Ariz. - Tulsa carded a final round two-under par score of 286 at the Palm Valley Golf Course on Saturday to finish with a 54-hole total of six-under par 858 for sixth place at the Desert Shootout. Hurricane freshman Matt Mabrey finished in 17th place overall with a total score of two-under par 214 after turning in a final round total of one-over par 73. Junior Chris Worrell turned in Tulsa's best round of the day with a three-under par 69 to place 27th overall with an even-par 216. Fellow junior Mark Mumford tied Worrell for 27th place with a 74 today for a 216 total. Tulsa's Stephen Carney shot a final round even-par 72 to finish in 36th place with a score of 218, while John Young Kim also turned in a final 18-hole total of 72 for 221 and 57th place Wichita State came from 16 strokes back to take team medalist honors as the Shockers posted a 54-hole total of 28-under par 836. First and second-round leader BYU finished in second place with a 26-under par 838 score. Host Denver placed third with a score of 850, while Kansas State and San Diego tied for fourth place with scores of 856. Wichita State's Rafael Becker's final round 66 moved him up from third place to capture medalist honors with a 14-under par 202. San Diego's Alex Ching placed second with a 13-under par 203 total Tulsa is back in action at The Woodlands All-American at The Woodlands Golf Course in Houston, Texas, April 9-10. Team Results 1.
