Tulsa Men's Golf Team Finishes Fifth at C-USA ChampionshipsApril 22, 2008
Texarkana, Arkansas - The Tulsa men's golf team concluded the Conference USA Championships in fifth place on Tuesday afternoon at the par-72 Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Arkansas. TU had the second-best round of the day with an even-par 288 for a three-round 876 total. Trailing by six strokes going into the final round, 26th-ranked UAB shot the best round of the day with a five-under par 283 to win the team title by nine strokes. Southern Miss (866), Memphis (868), 49th-ranked SMU (873) and Tulsa (876) rounded out the top-five teams. UAB's 81st-ranked Zach Sucher claimed the individual title with a nine-under par 207. Golden Hurricane sophomore Rob Laird carded a one-under par 71 in the final round for a 210 total and a third-place mark, while junior Nicolas Geyger shot his best round of the tournament with a 69 today to tie for sixth place with a 216 total. Classmate Ryan Brooks finished in 35th place with a 225 total, freshman Ville Vaisanen was one stroke back in 41st place and freshman Philip Reiser carded a 239 for 54th place. Geyger was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team, as he has won two tournament titles this year. He has a team-leading 73.8 stroke average and has placed among the top-20 in six out of 10 tournament this season. Tulsa will return to action at The Maxwell on Saturday-Sunday, May 10-11 in Ardmore, Okla.
