Tulsa Men Golfers in 10th Place After Opening Round of the C-USA Championships

Texarkana, Texas - The Tulsa men's golf team is in 10th place after the opening round of the 2012 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship. Tulsa carded a score of 301 at the par-72 Texarkana Country Club on Sunday. Memphis carded an opening round six-under par 282 to take a two-stroke lead over second-place SMU (284). Marshall is in third place with a 287 total, followed by UCF at 290 and UAB and Houston are tied at 292 to round out the top five places. Tulsa freshman Matt Mabrey shot a one-over par 73 for the Hurricane to sit in 20th place overall. Mabrey, starting the day's round on hole 10, pared each of his first eight holes, before a bogey on his ninth hole, the 18th. On the back nine, he hit three birdies and three bogeys to finish the round with his one-over par score. Fellow freshman Colton Staggs had a two-over par 74 score for 26th place. He birdied his first hole and then bogeyed his 10th, 12th and 15th holes. Junior Chris Worrell is two strokes behind with an opening round 76 for 36th place. Juniors John Young Kim is in 45th place with a score of 78 and Mark Mumford is in 50th place with a score of 80.
