TULSA MEN GOLFERS LEAD C-USA CHAMPIONSHIPS
April 27, 2014
Edmond, Okla. - The Tulsa men's golf team sits in first place at the Conference USA Men's Golf Championships after carding an eight-over par 288 in first round action, as Golden Hurricane senior Logan McCracken leads the individual race after turning in a score of three-under par 67 at the par-70 Oak Tree Golf Club on Sunday.
After a weather delay, the Tulsa team went out and took a two-stroke lead over second-place UAB (290) after the first 18 holes, while Charlotte is one spot back with a 291 score, followed by Middle Tennessee and Rice (293) rounding out the top-5 teams.
McCracken birdied his first four holes as he began the day on the 10th hole, before a bogey at the par-3 14th hole stopped his streak of birdie putts. He finished his first nine holes at four-under par after another birdie on hole 18. McCracken was five-under par heading into his last hole, but double-bogeyed the par-4 ninth hole for his three-under par score.
Tulsa's Matt Mabrey scored an even par 70, turning in five birdie putts and five bogeys, and enters Monday's second round in a five-way tie for third place. Junior Colton Staggs finished the day in 14th place with a three-over par 73 score.
Second round action takes place on Monday as Tulsa tee's off beginning at 8:45 a.m.
