Burlington, Iowa - The Tulsa men's golf team opened the fall season on Sunday with a round of five-over par 293 for fourth place in the 15-team field at the 54-hole Golfweek Conference Challenge.

Tulsa sits behind first place Missouri by seven strokes at the par-72 Spirit Hollow Golf Course. The Tigers carded a two-under par 286 score, while Ball State is in second place at 289, Iowa is in third place with a 292 total, followed by Tulsa's 293. Wake Forest rounds out the top-5 teams with a score of 294.

The Golden Hurricane had three top-20 performances by returning players Chris Worrell, Mark Mumford and Matt Mabrey. Worrell sits in a seventh-place tie after carding a round of one-under par 71 on Sunday. Mumford is in 12th place and Mabrey sits in 19th place for the Hurricane.

The senior Worrell jumped out to a great start on the first 10 holes with birdies on the par-5 second and fourth holes, the par-4 sixth and the par-5 10th hole. He gave one shot back on the par-3 12th hole with a bogey and on the par-4 16th suffered a double-bogey before playing even the final two holes.

After beginning with a bogey on the first hole, Mumford birdied holes 2, 3, 4 and the par-3 seventh hole. However, Mumford bogeyed the 8th, 12th, and 13th before suffering a double on the par-4 14th hole. He did, however, birdie the par-5 18th hole and finished the day with a one-over par score of 73.

Mabrey had a wild first five holes. He double-bogeyed holes 1 and 3, birdied hole 2, eagled hole 4 and bogeyed hole 5, and after the first five holes sat at two-over par. He went to one-under par with a birdie on the par-4 8th hole and got back to even-par with a birdie putt on the par-5 10th hole. Mabrey suffered his third double-bogey of the opening round on the par-4 13th hole and closed out the day in 19th place with a two-over par score of 74.
