Men's Golf Finishes in Third Place at the Windon MemorialOct. 6, 2008
Chicago, Illinois - Led by the strong play of seniors Ryan Brooks and Nicolas Geyger, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's golf team finished in third-place at the Windon Memorial in Glenview, Illinois. The Golden Hurricane finished with their best round of the tournament, an even-par 284 to finish the three-day event with a total of 865 at the Par 71 North Shore Country Club. The Golden Hurricane finished 22 shots behind tournament champion Illinois' total of 843. Five shots behind the Fighing Illini in second place was Indiana University. Rounding out the top five was Tulsa (865), Kent State (867) and tournament host Northwestern (870). Ryan Brooks was the highest indivdual finisher for the Golden Hurricane. He followed his second round 66, with a final round one-under par 71 to finish the tournament in fourth-place. On his final 18-holes at North Shore, Brooks recorded three birdies and two bogeys. Brooks finished the tournament with a three-under par total of 210. Nicolas Geyger entered final round play in a tie for 29th place. Today he was a birdie machine. On his round, Geyger recorded eight birdies, including four straight on holes 11-14. His final round season low score of 66 was enough to catapult him to a sixth place finish. Rob Laird birded three of his final five holes to card a final round 73. He finished in a tie for 44th place with a total score of 223. Two strokes behind Laird, in a tie for 46th place was TU freshman Stephen Carney. Rounding out the Golden Hurricane competing at North Shore Country Club was freshman Andre' Tourinho. He shot three consecutive rounds of 75 to finish in a tie for 49th place with a total of 225.
