Tulsa Men's Golf Team Wins Second Straight Tournament By Claiming The Landfall Tradition Title

Wilmington, NC - Four Tulsa golfers fired under-par rounds and finished among the top-five places to lead the Hurricane men's golf team to a dominating performance in final round action of The Landfall Tradition on Sunday afternoon. The Hurricane fired a score of eight-under par 280 to close out the fall season at The Landfall Tradition. Senior Mitch Cohlmia and sophomore Nicolas Geyger tied for medalist honors with one-under par totals of 215. Cohlmia finished the day where he started it, while Geyger moved up one spot. It was the first tournament title for each golfer. Seniors Brett Myers finished in third-place while Sam Korbe placed in a fifth-place tie and Ryan Henry placed 15th overall. For the team, Tulsa won its second straight tournament while it also was the second consecutive event that a Hurricane golfer won individual medalist honors. Last week, the Hurricane won the tournament championship at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate, while Korbe claimed the individual crown. The Hurricane had a 54-hole total of 868, which was a 26-stroke victory over second-place Xavier's 894 score. Rounding out the top-five teams were third-place Purdue (897), Ohio State (906) and Memphis (908). Cohlmia fired a one-under par 71 today and had a chance to win the title outright, but bogeyed on hole nine, his final hole of the day. He was three-under after the turn atfter playing the back nine first, but final nine holes shot even on seven holes with two bogey putts. Geyger had a two-under par 70 score, while senior Sam Korbe had Tulsa's best round of the day with a three-under par 69. Myers also had a two-under par 70 on Sunday with five birdie putts, one bogey and a double bogey. Myers finished with a two-over par 218 total, while Korbe's total was four-over par 220.
Starting out on hole 10, Geyger birdied four of his first eight holes, but suffered a triple-bogey on the par-4 18th hole to make the turn at one-under par. On the final nine holes, he had two birdies and one bogey. Korbe hit birdie putts on holes 10, 11, 16 and 8 and suffered his only bogey on hole 14. Henry began his final two holes at two-over par, but birdied both the eighth and ninth holes for his even-par score. He finished with a nine-over par total of 225. With its second tournament title of the year it was the first time since the 2001-02 season that the Hurricane had two tournament victories in one season. Tulsa's back-to-back tournament titles is the first since the 1997-98 campaign when the Hurricane won two straight tournament events in the spring season, including the UTEP Collegiate and Louisiana Classics Tulsa's fall campaign has come to a close, and will be back in action, February 10-11, at the Gator Invitational.
