Tulsa Men's Golf Team Places 16th at NCAA Central Regional
The Hurricane scored a final round 290 for a 54-hole total of 879, and failing to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Tulsa placed in 16th and was 19 strokes behind the ninth and final qualifying spot.
Individually for Tulsa, senior Martin Maritz completed an outstanding senior season finishing in 18th place with rounds of 72-70-71. Maritz missed a playoff for the two qualifying spots to the NCAA Championships by two strokes. Maritz, the nation's ninth-ranked player, finished among the top-20 in all 13 tournaments this year and had seven top-five finishes.
The best scores for the Hurricane on Saturday were 70s by sophomore Kevin Herny and senior Jason Gorman. Henry finished in 68th place with a 221 total, while Gorman placed in a tie for 74th place with a 222 total. Shawn Matthews and Todd Eaker both fired rounds of 79 on the final round.
Texas captured the team title with a round of 272 today for a five-under par 847, while Kent and Minnesota tied for second place with 849 totals. Rounding out the remainder of the top-nine teams qualifying for the NCAA Championships, May 31-June 3, at the Grand National Golf Complex in Opelika, Alabama are Oklahoma State, Houston, Northwestern, TCU, Kansas and Oklahoma.
Oklahoma State finished in fourth place with a 54-hole total of two-under par 850, while Oklahoma tied with Kansas for the final two qualifying spots with eight-over par 860s. Oral Roberts placed 25th with a three-round total of 893.
