Tulsa Men's Soccer Team Ties Marquette, 1-1, in Exhibition on Sunday
Aug. 17, 2014
Milwaukee, Wis. - The Tulsa men's soccer team kicked off the season with a 1-1 tie against Marquette in exhibition play on Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee, Wis. The two teams played three, 35-minute periods, with the Golden Eagles scoring in the first frame and the Golden Hurricane tying the contest in the third period.
"Our passion wasn't as sharp as we expect, but we are playing our first game after just three days of practice," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "Overall we got better as the game wore on."
TU conceded a goal in the first period off a set piece, but controlled a lot of the game in the second period and created some chances. In the third period, Kay Duit had a cross and Aymar Sigue headed it in to tie the contest.
"Freshmen Geoffrey Dee started the game and his passing was pretty good, and Bradley Bourgeois did a pretty good job today," McIntosh said. ""A lot of freshmen played in the third period and I thought they played well."
"We played a good team and achieved what we wanted, which was to have questions posed and have a jumping off point as to where we need to get better this week. We didn't create enough chances so we have to work on creating more scoring opportunities and put a big emphasis on the final third. We also need to get better on our passes."
Tulsa will take on Rogers State on Friday, August 22nd at the practice field beginning at 4:30 pm, and will face Central Arkansas in the final preseason warm-up on Saturday, August 23rd beginning at 7:30 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
