Tulsa senior Akeil Barrett scored the game-winning goal in the 101st minute to give the Golden Hurricane a 2-1 double-overtime victory over SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday afternoon at Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Illinois. TU moved to 1-1 on the season, while SIUE fell to 0-2 overall.

"We played a pretty good game," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "I thought the guys responded well when we went a goal down, especially in the tough conditions. We wanted to get better in the final third and we did that today. We created more opportunities and had good improvement from Friday's game."

The first half ticked off the clock scoreless, but Christian Volesky put the Cougars on the board at the 62:35 mark as he tapped in a goal from eight yards out.

Senior Austin Neil evened the score just over 10 minutes later as he scored on a pass from Abé Matamoros from 15 yards out on the right side.

Barrett's goal came at the 100:31 mark off an assist from Neil also from the right side.

Tulsa had a 23-12 lead in shots, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal and a 3-2 lead in corner kicks.

Neil had a team-best six shots, four of which were on goal, while freshman Aymar Sigue also had six attempts. Barrett, Tony Rocha and Ray Saari all had three attempts. Jake McGuire played all 100:31 between the posts and had four saves.

Tulsa will return to action next weekend, hosting the Holiday Inn Hurricane Classic on September 5th and 7th, featuring Virginia, CSUN, UAB and TU. The Golden Hurricane will take on Virginia on Friday beginning at 7:30 pm, and CSUN on Sunday at 2:30 pm. All games of the tournament will be played at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
