Tulsa Men's Soccer Team Battles UMKC to 1-1 Tie

Tulsa's 13th-ranked men's soccer team battled UMKC to a 1-1 double-overtime tie on Friday night in the SMU Classic at Westcott Field in Dallas, Texas. TU moved to 3-1-1 on the season, while the Kangaroos went to 0-2-2 overall.
The first 79 minutes ticked off the clock scoreless, but UMKC's Tato Chiaparro scored from 25 yards out in the 80th minute to give the Kangaroos a 1-0 lead. Cristian Mata evened up the score and forced overtime as he chipped in a goal from 12 yards out in the 85th minute.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the overtime periods and the game ended in the 1-1 tie.
Cristian had a team-best 10 shots, Omar Mata added seven attempts and Tony Rocha tallied six shots. Cody Mumma played the first 49 minutes between the posts and picked up two saves, while Jake McGuire logged 61 minutes in the net and earned three saves.
TU amassed 35 shots, including 11 on goal, compared to the Kangaroos 13 shots, six of which were on goal. The Hurricane also had a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action in the SMU Classic on Sunday, Sept. 15th against Hartwick. Game time is set for 12 noon at Westcott Field.
