Four Tulsa men's soccer players scored a goal to lead the Golden Hurricane to a 4-0 win over Conference USA foe South Carolina on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 5-3 on the season and 1-0 in C-USA, while the Gamecocks fell to 3-4-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.

"We talked before the game that we wanted to get out of the gate fast," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "It is conference play and we needed to go out and establish some good habits. We moved the ball well, defended quite well, really pressed and overall I was pleased with our performance. We got a little sloppy and flattened out in the second half, but we picked it up again in the end."

Cristian Mata put TU on the board at the 23:04 mark as he chipped in a goal over the keeper's head off a pass from Kyle Cumings. Bryce Follensbee gave the Hurricane a two-goal cushion in the 41st minute as he scored from eight yards out from Cristian.

Tulsa scored two quick goals in the final five minutes of the contest, including a goal from Kyle Cumings in the 86th minute and Akeil Barrett in the 88th minute, with Cristian and Omar Mata picking up the assists, respectively.

Barrett had a team-best five shots, while Cristian added four attempts and Follensbee had three attempts. Mark Pais logged all 90 minutes in goal, picked up three saves and earned his third shutout on the season.

"We are getting good, balanced scoring," McIntosh said. "Cristian, Kyle and Bryce have been doing a great job up front. We have a good group of strikers, and then at any moment Akeil can score a goal and he has done a good job with his finishing."

Tulsa had an 18-9 lead in shots, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal, and a 6-4 lead in corner kicks.

Tulsa will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 25th against 7th-ranked Creighton. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
