Tulsa, Oklahoma -

The Tulsa men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to 20th-ranked SMU on Wednesday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 4-6 on the season and 0-2 in Conference USA, while SMU moved to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.

"I thought we started out really well and combined well," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We scored a really nice goal off a combination play, but our midfield in the last 25 minutes of the first half struggled and turned the ball over. This is definitely something to learn from. Overall we fought back in the second half and the guys didn't give up so that was great to see. Both goalkeepers came up with big saves and unfortunately we didn't quite find the back of the net to get the equalizing goal, but that is how it goes."

Corey Albertson put the Golden Hurricane on the board and earned his second goal of the season at the 6:42 mark off an assist from Stephen Roberson. Diogo de Almeida evened the score in the 26th minute off a rebound attempt taken by Arthur Ivo, and then just under four minutes later Juan Castillo scored the go-ahead goal from 15 yards out up the middle.

TU played a man down after Blaine Gonsalves received two yellow cards, his second at the 63:54 mark, but SMU's Ian Kalis earned his second yellow card on the day in the 66th minute to even the playing field. Jake Dobkins was issued a red card after a penalty in the box, leaving just nine players on the field for Tulsa at the 68:12 mark.

Michael Murray came up with a big save on the penalty kick attempt to keep the game at 2-1, but neither team found the back of the net in the remainder of the contest.

Albertson and Tony Rocha each had three shots in the contest, while Quinn Starker, Omar Mata, Kyle Cumings and Abe Matamoros each had two attempts. Murray played all 90 minutes between the posts and had six saves.

TU had a 16-14 advantage in shots, including a 9-8 lead in shots on goal, and the Hurricane had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8th against Green Bay. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
