Tulsa Men's Soccer Team Falls to Kentucky, 3-1
Oct. 12, 2011 Lexington, Ky. - The Tulsa men's soccer team fell to Kentucky, 3-1, on Wednesday night at the UK Soccer Complex in Lexington, Ky. TU went to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in Conference USA, while the Wildcats moved to 8-7-1 overall and 1-4 in the league. "We are making mistakes that we aren't able to come back from," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "Our individual performances just weren't good enough. We made two big mistakes in the first 20 minutes and we couldn't get a goal to get back into the game. We've got to get better in those critical areas both offensively and defensively. Some of our inexperience is showing and we just have to keep trying to get better." Charles Pettys scored a goal in the 13th and 27th minutes to give the Wildcats an early 2-0 lead, and then Josh Mulvany added a third goal in the 81st minute. Omar Mata punched in a goal off a penalty kick at the 86:54 mark for TU, his fourth goal this season. Mata leads the Golden Hurricane with 11 points on the year. Mata and Tony Rocha each had three shots in the contest, while Matt Boullt and Jake Dobkins had two attempts apiece. Michael Murray logged all 90 minutes in goal and had two saves. Both teams had 11 shots in the contest, but TU had a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-4 lead in corner kicks. Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 16th against Memphis. Game time is set for 3:30 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. Scoring Summary Tulsa 0 1 - 1 Kentucky 2 1 - 3
