Oct. 25, 2007
Tulsa, Okla. -The University of Tulsa's seventh-ranked men's soccer team dominated Centenary on Thursday night, posting a 9-0 victory over the Gents at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 9-2-2 on the season and 3-0-2 in Conference USA, while Centenary fell to 3-10 overall and 2-2 in the Summit League.
"We played a very disciplined game," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We trained well on Tuesday and Wednesday and came out fired up today. We jumped out early and kept it going. We were able to get everyone some playing time and it was great to play at home after the three-game road swing."
Tulsa got on the board early as Jose Parada punched in his third goal of the season from 18 yards out off an assist from Chris Clements. Eric DeFreitas put TU up 2-0 just a little over three minutes later off a pass from Parada, and Todd Goddard made it 3-0 at the 10:36 mark off a penalty kick. DeFreitas added his second goal of the contest in the 19th minute to give TU a 4-0 lead heading into the break.
The Golden Hurricane came out still fired up in the second half, scoring five goals, including a second one from Goddard, and one each from Diego Henriquez, Jeovahnni Sandez, Brian Wurst and Ashley McInnes. Sandez, Wurst and McInnes each tallied their first goal of the season and of their careers.
This was the largest victory for TU since posting a 16-0 win over Nicholls State in the 1990 season.
Dominic Cervi and Tyrel Lacey each recorded 45 minutes in goal, while Cervi picked up one save and Lacey earned two in the contest. Tulsa out-shot Centenary 27-7, including a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal.
